Swing to old-time country with Sister Wilene

Gopherwood Concerts resumes in the new year with the vintage country and western swing band, Sister Wilene.

Sister Wilene takes listeners back to the days when country music was a pocketful of heartful ballads you could dance to with an 8 p.m. Saturday show at the Cadillac Elks Club.

Sister Wilene brings old school country to Cadillac

They say there is a little bit of “country” in all of us, and that is certainly the case with the members of the Northern Michigan based Sister Wilene. Made up of musicians from a variety of musical genres, Sister Wilene delves into the traditions of Patsy Cline and Bob Wills, among other greats from country music’s honky-tonk dance hall days."

"The Bodacious Bobs," a six-piece band led by mandolinist Don Julin and featuring members of the band Sister Wilene and other professional area musicians will serve as Patsy Cline's back-up band in the Old Town Playhouse's production of "Always... Patsy Cline," a musical tracing the friendship between Cline and Houston fan Louise Seger. The show runs September 11 - October 3.

Band gives 'old country' music its due during shows

Sister Wilene knows the power of an old country song – the kind that makes people sing, dance and reminisce together.

That’s why the Traverse City-area band – which will perform in Glen Arbor Sunday night – specializes in songs from artists like Patsy Cline and Bob Wills, among others, giving what they call “real country music” a whole new life.
